Energy Workforce Development Pathways Summit

October 21, 2021

The Virginia Clean Economy Act was passed in the 2020 Virginia Legislature as House Bill 1526 and Senate Bill 851. Among other things, the Act establishes a mandatory Renewable Portfolio Standard Program which requires Dominion Energy Virginia to be 100 percent renewable by 2045 and Appalachian Power to be 100 percent renewable by 2050; establishes an Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS); and declares certain Energy Efficiency (EE) pilot programs in the public interest.

Virginia’s energy workforce will need to grow and evolve in order to reach these ambitious objectives. In addition, Virginia’s thriving defense industry companies, advanced manufacturing, and services capabilities are driving energy employment toward a very bright future. The summit will bring together educators, energy industry representatives, community organizations, and policymakers at all levels of government to discuss the changing nature of work in Virginia’s rapidly evolving energy industry as well as current and future energy sector workforce needs, culminating in the publication of the Virginia Energy Workforce Roadmap to 2045.
